Another lazy Sunday

It’s been a wonderful lazy Sunday today, nursing a hangover and putting up some shelves, which have been sat boxed up in the corner of the living room for a few weeks now. I’ve also been working on our photo-wall (above), which is taking shape nicely.

The frames are all from various junk and vintage markets, my favourite being the centre one, which was about a tenner from Greenwich Clocktower Market last summer. Others are from the Deptford junk market and Abriacticus, an amazing little junk shop also in Deptford, and a short walk from my flat. Happy days.

Well, we’re back from Ireland. Had an awesome time, Cork was kind of how I remembered it from visiting as a kid, and it was great to see the family again. We also spent 6 nights in Kinsale, a wee little harbour town right on the coast. It was so nice to get away from the big city for a bit, and even better to get ultra fresh seafood, cooked straight of the boat. I’ll get some pics up as soon as I manage to take the films in to get processed.

Anyway, was out shooting around Deptford today, taking some more shots for my ‘Holy Ghost Zones’ series, and having a little explore of the industrial places around the river and the creek. Shot another few rolls of film to add to the pile to get developed. As I was walking around (in the amazing weather) this photo came to mind. I came across it a while ago, and love this photographer. Follow the link above for the full portfolio, and I recommend paying particular attention to the ‘Coney Island’ series (where the above image is from). Also check out the blog, for plenty of out-takes.

Market finds

Went up and met Suzi today for some lunch and a walk around the antiques and vintage market up at Spitalfields, and picked up a few wicked old photos (as an early gift for my birthday – whoop!).

I love this fellas ‘tash, and it’s making me think about rocking a proper ‘tash for this summer… Also came across quite a few old Associated Press stock photographs, with the old typewritten captions stuck to the back. Awesome.

"Khantouran Aalaal, 21, Left, and Al Arid Shafik 22, both Palestinians who shot up Athens airport transit lounge on August 5. killing three persons and wounding 55 others"

(Back view)

"President Idi Amin of Uganda, right, emphasises a point in his speech when opening the 22nd session of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU in Kampala, Uganda), on Monday April 1st. In the background from left to right, are Onzo Ekangaki, OAU Secretary General, Simbananiye, Chairman of current OAU session and Burundi Foreign Minister: and OAU Secretariat officials." 2.4.74
